New Zealand Orchid Society Events

The New Zealand Orchid Society offers a range of events for members and guests. These activities support learning, sharing, and building connections with others interested in orchid growing.

Monthly Meetings

We hold monthly meetings where members bring in flowering orchids for display and judging. These meetings feature guest speakers, cultural tips, and updates on upcoming events. New growers can ask questions and get advice from experienced members.

Details: Held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. No meetings during December and January

Meeting Format: Informal and includes educational content in the form of practical demonstrations, presentations or videos, a plant table and commentary, well priced products used for growing orchids like fertiliser, potting mix, insecticides, etc., raffles, and light refreshments.

Open to visitors and new members

Orchid Shows

The Society organises three orchid shows per annum. These events offer a chance to see a wide range of orchids, from popular hybrids to rare species. Members can exhibit their plants, assist with displays, and interact with the public.

Activities include:

  • Plant benching and judging.
  • Society displays.
  • Sales tables for plants and supplies.
  • Public engagement and orchid care advice.
  • Fellowship with like-minded people.

Orchid Growing Visits

We organise outings to visit orchid growers, both hobbyists and commercial growers. These visits provide insight into different growing environments and methods. It's also a great opportunity to ask questions, see orchids in bloom, and enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts.
