Join The New Zealand Orchid Society

The New Zealand Orchid Society, NZOS, was established in 1948 and is the oldest orchid society in New Zealand.

As a member, you receive a range of benefits and access to important club information:

  • We produce a monthly newsletter with details of the next meeting, a summary of the previous meeting, and any notices from the executive committee.
  • You can also keep up to date with society activities through the NZOS Facebook page and our website.
  • We maintain a website, which includes information about the society and its activities and has an exclusive members' area with video replays of our webimars and bits and pieces of other valuable orcid related information. Our website address is www.nzorchidsociety.nz
  • We hold regular monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of each month, except in December and January. Meetings are held at the Auckland Horticultural Rooms, 956 Great North Road, Western Springs, Auckland. They begin at 7.30 pm and usually finish around 9.30 pm. Doors generally open shortly after 7.00 pm. Any change of venue is advised in the newsletter and on the website.
  • Meeting activities often include guest speakers, growing tips, plant displays, plant sales, raffles, supper, and special events. We encourage members to take part. Members also buy and sell orchids and orchid-related items through the monthly trading table.
  • We hold three public shows each year: Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Dates and times are published in the newsletter closer to each show. Members also receive a show schedule outlining the classes for plants they may wish to enter.
  • We encourage a strong sense of community within the orchid world through garden visits and social events. Details are provided in the newsletter.
  • Our financial year runs from April to March.
  • The society is here to support its members. We have many experienced growers who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise. If you have a particular interest or would like to learn more about a subject, please speak to a member of the executive committee. They may be able to arrange a guest speaker or put you in touch with a member who can help.

Remember, orchids are fun. Enjoy them.
